Air New Zealand recommends purchasing trip insurance with your domestic flights.
We conveniently include trip insurance with the online booking process (note: you can only buy our domestic trip insurance at the same time as flights).
There's no age limit and automatic cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

Our Domestic Trip Insurance provides coverage for unforeseen events beyond your control:
- before your trip begins - QBE will refund the cost of cancelling your travel, accommodation and Air New Zealand Holidays package arrangements to a maximum of $2,000.
- after your trip begins - QBE will refund your reasonable extra travel and accommodation costs to a maximum of $2,000.
In addition to Air New Zealand's checked baggage compensation of up to $1,500, QBE will pay you an additional amount up to a maximum of $1,500 for any accidental loss, theft or damage to your baggage whilst checked with Air New Zealand for a flight on this booking. Baggage items are covered to their current market value.

Free look period
Domestic trip insurance is non-refundable but you have a 14 day free-look period from the date that you purchased the insurance.
We will refund the cost of the insurance - as long as the travel has not yet commenced, and you haven't made a claim.
To request a refund call the Air New Zealand Contact Centre on 0800 737 000, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and quote your booking reference.
You should know
You can't pay for domestic trip insurance with Airpoints Dollars™, and will not earn Airpoints Dollars.
Air New Zealand domestic trip insurance is underwritten and provided by QBE Insurance (International) Limited.
Your Electronic Ticket, Itinerary & Receipt will include your policy number, amount paid and terms and conditions.
