For an iconic kiwi experience join us for our three day classic kayaking and camping adventure, reconnecting with nature and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Starting in the northern area of the Abel Tasman National Park at Totaranui or Awaroa we will make our way down to Marahau.

Your fun and experienced guide will share with you their knowledge and passion for the area and ensure you get the most out of your time here.

Each day will bring beautiful scenery of the coastline, islands, lagoons while you paddle past playful New Zealand fur seals and an abundance of other marine and birdlife. We will make stops along the way for epic photo opportunities and to visit historical Maori Pa sites, learning about the history and culture.

By night you will be treated to incredible views of the starry sky as you relax and unwind before falling asleep to the sound of the ocean - this is nature at its best.

All meals will be prepared for you by our team and are designed to be healthy and give you the energy you need for your day of paddling, and exploring.

Itinerary

  • Day One - 8.15am: Check in and meet your guide, water taxi Marahau to Totaranui/Awaroa.
  • 10.15am: Kayak from Totaranui/Awaroa to Onetahuti area. Total kayak time approx 4.5hrs including lunch and breaks.
  • 5.00pm: Set up camp site in Onetahuti.
  • 7.00pm: Dinner & Dessert.
  • Day Two - 8.00am: Breakfast and decamp.
  • 9.30am: Kayak from Onetahuti area to Anchorage. Total kayak time approx 4hrs with breaks. Lunch at noon in Bark Bay.
  • 5.00pm: Set up camp site at Anchorage.
  • 7.00pm: Dinner and Dessert.
  • Day Three - 8.00am: Breakfast and decamp.
  • 9.30am: Kayak from Anchorage to Marahau. Total kayak time approx 4hrs with breaks.
  • 12:00pm: Enjoy lunch in the Astrolabe area.
  • 3.30pm: Arrive Marahau and unpack gear. Enjoy showers and refreshments at the Abel Tasman Kayaks base.

  • Top quality double sea kayak, lifejacket, paddle, spray skirt, paddle jacket, dry bags for cameras.
  • 2 person tents, thermarest inflatable mattresses and sleeping bags if required.

    Prior experience is not necessary.

    Paddling: Approximately 4 - 5 hours per day interspersed with breaks.

    Pricing includes guide, all meals, kayaking and camping equipment.

    Optional transport: Free bus from Nelson or Motueka including return, operating 1 Nov to 31 Mar (on request outside of these times).

    Nelson meeting point: Nelson i-SITE Visitor Information Centre, 77 Trafalgar Street, Nelson 7010.

    Motueka meeting point: Motueka i-SITE Visitor Information Centre, 20 Wallace Street, Motueka, New Zealand.

  • All our prices now include an Environmental Access Fee which goes directly towards preserving the Abel Tasman National Park.
