Our internationally qualified instructors are extremely experienced and passionate about surf and provide quality lessons that are second-to-none.
Group lessons are a fantastic way to have fun and learn to surf alongside other keen beginner surfers.
With a lesson ratio of 1:4 you can be assured that you will be getting the very most from your lesson.
We take pride in our interactive lessons, all sessions include a theory aspect to give you the confidence in the water and in yourself.
You will learn about beach safety such a rips and surfing technique.
All steps are tailored to your ability and you will get the support and instruction you need to have fun surfing and progressing.
Located just 40 minutes from downtown Auckland, Piha Beach is one of New Zealand’s most coveted surf beaches and not only has some of the best surf in the country, but is also the safest beach on Auckland’s west coast!
*Costs include surfboard and wetsuit hire
*The Surf Academy in Piha will let you know the exact lesson time due to the tides
Bookings times will be reconfirmed by the operator once booked
Location : The meeting point for the surf lessons Piha Surf Academy is south Piha carpark. In front of the south Piha surf life saving club. 23 Marine Parade S, Piha.

Great fun!
Surf lesson was great. Instructor was very friendly. However, can’t rate a 5/5 because Bookme made a mistake in not putting our booking through to Surf Academy. We had a minor issue when we arrived at Piha; we weren’t on the list!

Excellent Service
What a great service! From A to Z it was a fantastic experience. The coaches were experienced, patience and fun. They really took their time with the land-based learning which made it so much better in the water. My 3 boys had a fantastic first surfing experience and will no doubt be back on a board these holidays. Thank you!

Awesome surf lesson, would definitely recommend
Had an incredibly great time at Piha surf school. It was my first time surfing and I took the 2h beginners surf lesson. Julles was the best instructor we could've had, really relaxed and easy-going, explaining all the relevant stuff about waves, safety, surfing technique etc. He got everyone of us stand up on the board in the water and it was great fun! would a 100% recommend!

Fun surfing experience
The lesson was really fun and instructor was really nice and patient. The weather at the beach was perfect when we went out. Been wanting to take up surfing for a while and Piha beach was a great place to start!

So Much Fun
I have never tried marine sports until this time. The staff was very kind and the experience was fantastic! I could stand on the board. Highly recommend for people who wants to just try surfing. You don't need to buy the surf board and wet suits. No additional cost. Easy but Exciting! The wave was a little bit strong, if you afraid of water you'd better to tell it to the staff ;)
