Experience all that Fitzroy Island has to offer on this spectacular self-guided day trip at this incredible location!
Departing Cairns we’ll take a 45-minute ferry to the Island, and the rest of the day is up to you! Boat departs 11am so you have time for a sleep in! Returning to Cairns at 5pm.
Once on the island you’ll be free to relax, play and explore this remarkable slice of paradise as you please.
There's plenty to do on the Island! You can hire kayaks, snorkel gear and paddle boards. There is also a café and general store so you’ll be set for lunch and snacks to keep you fuelled throughout the day. Take a tour of the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, this can also be booked at additional cost on the day.
The Fitzroy Island is surrounded by the famous Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is perfect for snorkelling or diving. The reef system is world heritage listed and is an absolute must-see for anyone visiting the region!
The beaches are safe and sheltered, ideal for swimming with the kids or simply relaxing on the beachside and soaking in the picturesque scenery.
There is plenty to explore on land too with multiple walks through the lush island tropical rainforest.
A brilliant way to explore one of Australia’s iconic scenic destinations, and a fantastic day out that the whole family will love!
Things to do:
Nature Walks: There are many beautiful self-guided nature walks on the island.
Dive & Adventure Centre: You can hire equipment from the Fitzroy Island Dive Centre including kayaks, snorkel & fins and stand up paddle boards, plus book your glass bottom boat adventures here too.
Turtle Rehab Tours: Take a tour of the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island and meet the patients.
Island Facilities:
Foxy’s Bar: Enjoy a coffee, cold drink or lunch at Foxy’s Bar
General Store: Located adjacent to Foxy’s, you can purchase refreshments, snacks and general needs. You can also book your Turtle Tour at the General Store.

We offer three departure options from Cairns and three return from Fitzroy Island:

Departing Fitzroy Island - 5pm

Fitzroy Island
We had an excellent experience with the Fitzroy Island tour group. The entire trip was very well organised, relaxing, and truly enjoyable. The island is absolutely beautiful, and everything from the transport to the activities was smooth and hassle-free. The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the tour, which made the experience even better. We had a wonderful time and created great memories. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Cairns who wants an amazing island experience!

Day trip to Fitzroy
Im a Cairns local and took a Trip over. The boat was calm and enjoyable. Snorkelling around the island was lovely and walk on the island was pretty. Service at the hire store for Snorkelling gear was great. Only complaint- general store was appalling with almost nothing in there. No gluten free options and didn't even sell bottles of water. Foxy bar didn't open until 11.30am for food and they couldn't cope so shut the roller door and stopped taking orders. Bald man who worked behind the bar was extremely rude to everyone. Such a shame as the island is such a beautiful place and the facilities are so run down. I felt embarrassed that so many tourists have come to Fitzroy for a holiday and the facilities on the island are sub standard. It started raining and tourists were yelled out to move out from the resort where they were seeking shelter. A tourist asked, where can we stand and wait then while this storm passes (thunder and lightening) it was epic to receive the response "on the beach"! Such a rude man working for the resort and absolutely no customer service. As a local it's put me off returning or promoting this place!

Fitzroy island
Resort is old and dirty, day trippers are excluded from using resort facilities. Food at Fozys bar was very expensive for such poor quality. We were chastised by restaurant staff for having our own snacks snacks despite ordering 6 meals and having 6 children. Glass bottom boat tours were not offered throughout the day despite being advertised. I would suggest if your going to charge resort prices improve the quality and standard of the facilities.
