You would be crazy not to! With over 17 hectares of stunning bays and inlets why would you waste time looking for wildlife and volcanic features by yourself, you will soon find it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack!
Instead of paddling in circles... shhh... your knowledgeable, qualified local guide knows all the secret spots including when and where to go to maximise your time on the water, and most importantly they will keep you safe in New Zealand's extreme & changeable weather conditions!
Seventy-five kilometres from Christchurch, Akaroa is a historic French settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano. The clean, sparkling water of the harbour is the home to a variety of amazing sea life, including the Hector dolphin, the world’s smallest dolphin, as well as heaps of seabirds, NZ fur seals and the smallest penguins in the world...little white-flippered penguins.
You don’t need any previous kayaking experience; in fact, most guests have never kayaked before. But please note: you DO need a good level of fitness and hand/ eye coordination. You need to be able to learn to control your kayak quickly and be able to paddle for up to 2 hours ( sometimes into the wind).
Groups are small and the equipment is new and stable. You’ll get full instructions and a safety briefing before you start, so you’ll be safe and secure on your Akaroa Guided Kayak Safari adventure.

Such fun
We had a fantastic time, Our guide (Stewart) I think that’s what his name was. Scottish guy was so informative and fun. We felt like he had such a great knowledge and his delivery of humour kept us all engaged. I would definitely recommend and would definitely do again

Akaroa kayaking
A great trip lead by Max and Louan. Both guides were really knowledgeable and we had a fantastic afternoon on the water topped off with seeing a Hectors dolphin- amazing!

Canceled due to weather condition
It was canceled due to weather condition, however, I have not yet received the refund. Please check the status of the refund as soon as possible

Wouldn't recommend
While this was mostly a fun morning out kayaking, I honestly think it would have been better to just hire kayaks by ourselves in the town of Akaroa. There was one other couple on our tour who were French and our French guide continued to speak French with them (even after they said they spoke English and asked their questions to him in English). He did provide some information in English, but also didn't really give us any kayaking tips or advice either. He didn't stay close to us and also took us too shallow so we got stuck in the mud and got himself free easily and left us to figure it out on our own which wasn't fun at all.
