    The only place on the planet, where you can get close to the world's smallest and rarest dolphin, the Hector's Dolphin. Simply rare and unique.

    fionas5 said... I don't think there are actually enough Hector dolphins for this to be an experience. I understand you are in the wild and can't expect every dolphin to interact. But this was the second time I had done this trip and the second time I swam in freezing water three times with the hope of 2-5 dolphins who were nearby coming over. Yes, we got a partial refund. But should they even be advertising this when it seems unlikely you're going to have a good experience? My heart sank when one of the guides said to her colleague 'have you done this in Kaikoura? The dolphins there get up really close, swim round you in circles and dance in and out of you.' If even the guides think it's better in Kaikoura, don't waste your money in Akaroa. Very disappointed.
