Well worth a visit!

A great tour guide, very knowledgeable & interesting! The house has so many amazing antiques & lots of tales of the family who lived there. Close to the city centre & easy parking.

Hi Melissa We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Olveston. We do have great housekeeping & gardening staff who do a great job of looking after the house and collection. Most of our guides have worked at Olveston for some time and so have a lot of knowledge to pass on during the tour. Best wishes Christine Mehrtens

Beautiful building and gardens

Olveston home and gardens are lovely, I did the tour but found that was a bit limiting, it would have been nice to be able to get closer to the antiques and to have the freedom to take a few more photos. The guide was very informative but I didn't feel like I had the time after they had spoken to be able to have a good look around.

From Olveston Historic Home - Guided Tour

Hi Elyse We are glad that you found the Olveston lovely. Olveston offers 2-hour specialty tours for people who wish to spend longer in the house to learn more about their particular interest. These tours are held every Tuesday with a different emphasis. Behind the Ropes tours, Art tours, Architectural Tours and Garden tours. If you have a small group you can book a time that suits your group. Behind the Ropes tours allow for small groups so you can get up close to objects and see inside drawers and cupboards that you do not get to see on a 1-hour public tour. Our 1-hour tours give an overview of the family and the collection and for most people who are on a schedule this is enough time for them as they have somewhere else to be. We have many people who return to Olveston several times and find out more interesting facts each time they visit. Perhaps we will see you again in the future when you return to Dunedin on a 2-hour specialty tour. Best wishes Christine Mehrtens
