Hosted by the family-owned Glacier Country Helicopters, led by the friendly husband-and-wife team Gus and Poppy, this tour kicks off from Franz Josef and treats guests to jaw-dropping views of Franz Josef and Tasman Glaciers, plus the towering peaks of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.

The route even takes in the stunning Southern Alps, where fans of The Lord of the Rings will recognise the area from the famous “lighting of the beacons” scene. The highlight is a 15-minute snow landing on the remote Shackleton Glacier, where guests can enjoy a dram of Shackleton’s Whiskey served over pure glacial ice—a nod to Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Antarctic expedition.

Launched in 2023, this unique tour quickly became a favourite, blending jaw-dropping scenery, a fascinating slice of history, and warm Kiwi hospitality. Gus, Poppy, and the Glacier Country Helicopters team pride themselves on sharing their incredible backyard, making sure every guest feels like part of the adventure.

Restrictions

  • Weight Restrictions:

    All passengers and any gear will be weighed at check in. If you are 120kg or over, you will be required to book a comfort seat (the cost is half the RRP of your flight).

    Front Seat or Executive Helicopter upgrade requests cannot be made when booking a discounted seat

    Age and Weight Restrictions:

    Infants are up to 3 years (maximum weight of 15KG)

    Children 4-17 years (or 16KGs and over)

    Health Restrictions: Do you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis, or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could affect what helicopter you fly you in. Please let us know as you proceed through checkout.

Bad Weather Refunds

  • If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.

Notes

  • Flights require a minimum of 4 pax to depart. Solo travellers & smaller bookings are welcomed, and we will aim to pair you up with another booking.

    Bad weather refunds: If your experience is cancelled by the operator (due to weather) you will be entitled to a full refund. Your booking is only valid for the time & route you have booked and is not be able to be rescheduled or transferred to an alternative.

    Snow Landing: All routes and snow landings are subject to change at short notice including during the flight. If you are unable to snow land due to weather conditions and your flight is turned into an overflight (total time will be reduced by your snow landing time) you will be refunded the landing fee of $30 per person.

    Cancellation policy: All bookings are non-transferable, and cancellations must be made 24hours in advance or 100% cancellation fee will apply.
