Brooks Waimārama Sanctuary, where endangered native species flourish in the South Island's largest fenced haven.
Went for a trip in early April. Lovely quiet tracks with plenty of Tui and fantails to keep you company and only steps away from Nelson.

What a beautiful space for our birdlife and for Tuatara Ruruku. Did the small loop track and can’t wait to go back to do some more. The staff were lovely, helpful and welcoming. 5 stars!

What an amazing place this sanctuary is! Such a credit to the vision and foresight of a dedicated group of people and it's just fantastic to see the cooperation and hard work that has created a very special place Highly recommended, there's an easy loop walk but easily extended if you would like to explore more or like a more challenging hike

Lovely couple of hours surrounded by nature
Scenic nature reserve with a choice of walks. Beautiful bush in a valley with a river flowing through. We were greeted by friendly volunteers who explained about the area and provide a walking map. We saw fantails and Kaka on our walk
