We had a fantastic trip to Fraser Island on 9/2/2021. Early morning pickup from Noosa and straight to Rainbow Beach where we stopped for a toilet break and much needed coffee. Then the 4WD bus arrived and all 15 of us headed to the Barge. 15 mins barge ride over to Fraser - tide was a bit high so Jamie our guide decided on going to inland track route 11 - lots of bumpety ride but to be expected and having a professional driving the 4wd was reassuring. We stopped for some morning tea - a coffee tea or juice with cake, muffins and apples. Then spotted our first and only dingo. Then to the rainforest where we were left to do a 2kms walk through the most peaceful rainforest ... Crystal clear waters and so many plants and fascinating fungi. It's a one way track and a little tricky to navigate at times but if you're fit no problems. We got to spot a diamond python cradled in a tree which was pretty special too. We then headed to Lake McKenzie for a swim in the crystal clear waters ... It was amazing. Unfortunately the toilets change room were being renovated so this was a little inconvenient. Jamie had a delicious lunch of chicken, cheese and salad rolls with a can of softdrink and leftover cake and apples. We then had another wild ride through the island and beach drive back to the ferry. It's a huge day but so worth the effort. Great company to deal with and Jamie was an excellent driver, guide with information overload - and kept us well informed - all watered and fed - great work. We last visited Fraser Island over 25 years ago and were surprised at the amount of garbage loitered on the beaches - so much plastic, cardboard, rubbish even rusty gas bottles... During our entire time on the island we didn't see a ranger once so unsure if they still exist but something needs to be done to ensure this island stays paradise else in a further 20 years it'll be a dump site.
