Exploing the Bay of Islands hinterland

Ken was a meticulous knowledgeable caring guide and driver providing a smooth varied experience of the places he took us and the country we drove through. We went to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds Lookout, learning of the 1840 Maori-British Treaty, the Haruru falls, the Manaka chocolate factory will I ever recover from the moccacino with cream?), the craft market (a pottery magnet graces my fridge). Approaching the Stone House, Ken detoured to enable us to gaze at its setting across the river first - beautiful. I appreciated the art and craft of the Kawakawa Hunterwasser mosaic toilets and of the steam train coasting down the middle of the main street - both Wow! The glowworm caves with Maori guides of a descendant line of over 400 years, the Kauri forest - those silent great giants at risk both awed and spoke of sensitive care and renewed care. And Ken easily returned the cruise ship participants on time. A day of variety, depth and delight. KiaOra Ken!
