Experience a one in a lifetime world class diving adventure, suitable for all levels of ability at the world renowned Poor Knights Islands - A sacred ecological treasure trove abundant with marine and wildlife and one of the world's top 10 dive spots.

Whether you're a complete novice, an experienced diver or simply want to go along to enjoy the ride, the Poor Knights Islands are an ecological treasure trove just waiting to be discovered.

Situated 23km of the Tutukaka Coast (ranked 2nd best coastline in the world by National Geographic), the islands are protected by their marine and wildlife reserve status. This allows the marine and wildlife to flourish, the way nature intended it, making the islands one the top 10 dive spots in the world.

Diving highlights include:

  • The world's largest sea cave and a range of drop off's, arches, walls, sand channels, underwater caverns and tunnels.
  • Vast array of colorful invertebrate life, vibrant sponges, anemones, hydroids, corals, nudibranchs and unique flora and fauna and dense kelp forests.
  • Stingrays, maomao, demoiselles, moray eel, scorpion fish, wrasses, nudibranch, grouper and a whole host of other marine life.
  • Marine mammals including dolphins and fur seals. The islands are also a migratory path for orca and whales.
  • Subtropical currents and high visibility ranges of up to 40 metres.
  • The scenery above the crystal clear waters is just as stunning and the islands status a wildlife reserve allows the bird life to thrive. The Poor Knights are also steeped in rich Maori history and have been declared wahi tapu (sacred place).

Dive! Tutukaka has a fleet of boats of different sizes, and by treating you as an individual, we help you meet your expectations. We tailor the day to suit you; five purpose built boats, more room, top crew, more choice of challenging sites, plus more support and assistance for beginners. Winter no problem for diving here

Had a 7mm wetsuit and was pleasantly surprised to find I didn't get too cold, plus some winter bonuses - you're more likely to find seals in winter and they may even jump in the water with divers, and the low angle of the sun makes it's brightest in the worlds biggest volume sea cave - Rico Rico. Great dive guides and skipper. highly recommended.
