Jamie Peterson said... From the name, you imagine it will be focused only on the kauri logging industry. In reality, it's so much more than that. You can compare samples of kauri to every other usable New Zealand timber. You can get a vivid look at pioneer life. You can see an astonishing range of stationary engines. The in-motion display of logging equipment is particularly amazing. Oh, and if you want to see wood that's literally millions of years old, I don't think there's anywhere else to go. Fantastic museum! We spent about hours here, and we still had to rush through some exhibits. I know I'm being particularly effusive in my praise, but this truly is one of the finest museums in New Zealand. It's definitely worth visiting, but you should allow a reasonable amount of time to take it all in.
