Bee Keeping Experience

Bee-come a Bee Keeper and learn all about the fascinating world of the honey bee.

Highlights

  • Learn about bees including their lifecycle, why manuka honey is so amazing and the importance of bees to our global food chain.
  • Put on a full-length bee suit and join an experienced Bee Keeper to help open an active hive to observe its inner workings
  • Witness the different bees found in a hive and hopefully locate the Queen.

Interactive and exciting, our bee keeping experience is incredible!

We’ll start with an informative digital presentation before donning a full-length bee suit and joining an experienced Bee Keeper to open and work an active hive.

You’ll get to witness the inner workings of these amazing colonies while learning about their secrets from your friendly and knowledgeable guide.

Suitable for anyone 6 years and over, our fun and easy experience requires no physical fitness and is great for families with children sized bee suits available.

Please note, sturdy footwear and socks are required. We recommend wearing long pants and a long sleeve top, but these are not essential.

We also cannot open a working hive in cold weather as this can kill or severely damage a working Hive, so in bad weather we’ll open up one of our Indoor live hives.

Amazing experience

What a fantastic surprise! I knew this would be interesting to me and I was hopeful the 8 and 9 year olds would appreciate it, but we were all totally enthralled. Rosie was funny, interesting, knowledgable and friendly. The setup and equipment was well organised and laid out and although the day was little cool we got to see lots of bees and different parts of the hives in a great location. This is a definite must-do!

Fantastic Experience!

We had a great experience being beekeepers, meeting Nick and the bees, who were all very friendly! We learned a lot about the bees and how to work a hive, and loved being involved in the actual work of a bee keeper. The highlights for us were holding a bee and also feeding a bee with honey on our fingers! Would highly recommend visiting this place and the bee keeping experience!

Loved it!

I was lucky enough to end up alone on the tour as 4 people didn't show up. This was a really personnalised experienced and I got to ask all my questions and Nick answered them all. I got to manipulate a drone (the male bee not the remote controlled thing :D), we opened the hove to find the queen, I got to taste the honey straight from the hive. At the end I even got to spin some honey even though it's not included on the tour and I paid the discounted BookMe price. Also all the stuff in the shop is fascinating. At the end I realized that it had gone by in a flash which in my mind is a sign of having had a good time.

Best Thing I Have Done In Queenstown

The most fun I have had in queenstown. Me and my girlfriend had such an amazing time learning about the bees, helping with the hives and even feeding the bees honey off our finger. Then getting to take home some honey after watching and helping with the process of extracting the honey from the honeycomb. The whole expericance was just incredible, so much fun and informative. Only topped by the everybody that works there so friendly, helpful and passionate about the bees!
