Explore Queenstown's beautiful Lake Wakatipu on board a vintage steamship (TSS Earnslaw, 1912) and enjoy a delicious gourmet BBQ lunch at Walter Peak High Country Farm.
Your afternoon begins with a magical cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw, a vintage steamship launched in 1912 and rich in local pioneering history. She is the only hand-fired commercial passenger carrying vessel in the Southern Hemisphere.
Arriving at Walter Peak High Country Farm on the opposite side of the lake it is time to disembark for the ambience of the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant situated in beautiful gardens.
The menu includes an extensive range of local and New Zealand produce, succulent meats cooked on the rotisserie, a delicious range of vegetables and salads. Then finish with your dining experience with tantalising desserts, cheeses and freshly brewed tea and coffee.
Following lunch, guests have the opportunity to gain insight into high country life with an entertaining and informative farm demonstration, or explore the beautiful lakeside gardens. A quintessential Kiwi experience combined with the elegance of a bygone era.
The entertainment continues on the spectacular night-time cruise home, where you can join in on a sing-a-long with the ship's pianist or just enjoy the fresh air and stunning views on the deck as the sparkling lights of Queenstown draw closer.
While the cost is fairly high for this experience it matches in its value. The boat ride is always stunning anyway but add to that a very impressive gourmet BBQ lunch, then you have an incredible experience- the food was extrely excellent with lots of salads and sides and a variety of meats and vegetarian options. Also the opportunity to return for more food! I don't eat desserts but everyone else I was with enjoyed returned for more of the wee dessert helpings and said they were delicious. Be prepared for buying your own drinks and for spending money in the shop if you want anything. The farm demonstration was interesting but if you are already familiar with shearing sheep then I recommend more time wandering the gardens and area as I wish there was more time for that. All up a wonderful day out. Highly recommend!
Excellent hosts and lunch. Farm show was great. The whole experience was spoilt by unruly, rude, loud and ignorant Chinese who shouted, pushed, took every seat on the boat and talked through all announcements and the dog show. Twice my wife was roughly pushed aside. Perhaps guides that can assist them with local culture and manners would help?
Love the buffet! My family enjoyed it!

Lovely food and breathtaking views
Had a lovely time on cruise, food was excellent and breathtaking views. Only complaint is that when we arrived at Walter Peak for the BBQ lunch the receptionist was a bit rude when I asked if we could sit outside because it was such a lovely sunny day which we don’t had much of. Her response was do what ever you want no one is listening anyway. But not one’s was there an announcement made of what the rules are for sitting outside.
