  • Navigate 6 exciting rapids
  • Enjoy outstanding world-class scenery

Get ready for a thrilling whitewater rafting adventure on the iconic Shotover river as we navigate the rapids that carve their way down the valley.

Your adventure begins with a 40-minute journey along the historic Skippers Road, one of the Top 10 most dangerous roads in NZ. We’ll get your adrenalin pumping even before you hit the water, as you travel down the dirt road cut during the 1860’s gold rush.

The upper section of the Shotover River gives you and your paddling team time to practice your paddle techniques and be briefed for the exhilarating rapids ahead. Our knowledgeable rafting guides who are expertly trained, and possess a keen sense of adventure will then navigate your raft through the grade 3- 5 rapids, aptly named aftershock, squeeze, toilet and Oh Sh*t.

Your journey comes to an end through the darkness of the 170m long Oxenbridge Tunnel before finally taking on the Cascade rapid. Don’t worry, hot showers are available on your return!

We were told that it rained for two weeks and that many sessions were cancelled before us. While we were driven up onto the Skippers Canyon and down to the river, it was still raining and we were given several serious warnings...I’m a competent swimmer but when the guide says to everyone ‘you need to be an “Olympic” swimmer’, I thought I should be fine since I’ve done white water rafting before and I was fine...Anyway I ended up falling into the “worst part” and almost drowned, I was semi-conscious by the time I was pulled out of the water and there was no other way back but to get back onto the raft and continue on. Overall, I’m glad I did it and came out alive but I will never do it again. In saying that, thank you to the guides for an epic ride.

Kawarau jet to raft experience

We booked the Shotover rafting trip, but unfortunately that was cancelled due to low water levels a few days before our trip. We we were offered the Kawarau jet to raft trip instead and, even though we would have preferred to do the Shotover, we decided to take the other option. We did not regret this, the guides in both jet boat, rafts and kayak were knowledgeable, friendly, experienced and had humour and good communication skills. We had a great time and also really enjoyed nature, the Kawarau gorge is just stunning! Thanks, Go Orange guides!
