Your evening begins with a magical cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw, a vintage steamship launched in 1912 and rich in local pioneering history.

Arriving at Walter Peak High Country Farm on the opposite side of the lake it is time to disembark for the ambience of the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant situated in beautiful gardens.

The menu includes an extensive range of local and New Zealand produce, succulent meats cooked on the rotisserie, a delicious range of vegetables and salads. Then finish with your dining experience with tantalising desserts, cheeses and freshly brewed tea and coffee.

After dinner enjoy a stroll around the beautiful gardens.

The entertainment continues on the spectacular night-time cruise home, where you can join in on a sing-a-long with the ship's pianist or just enjoy the fresh air and stunning views on the deck as the sparkling lights of Queenstown draw closer.

A must do experience

I cannot rate this highly enough. The trip was absolutely lovely on the Earnslaw, the Highcountry venue magnificent, the meal the best I have ever had anywhere in New Zealand. The farm show was very informative and just enough. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Highly recommended

Great experience recommended by a family member. Couldn’t believe how smooth the journey on the paddle steamer was, so fascinating to see it’s workings. Arrived at Walter Peak and followed the crowd of people up to the historic buildings. Pleasantly surprised by the ease of being seated, good selection of wines and well organised and no hassle buffet. The food was super with an endless supply of seafood and BBQ’d meats, vegetables, cheese and desserts. There was also a sheep shearing demo which our small group chose not to attend.

Wonderful night out

A really enjoyable trip across the lake. The meal was excellent though probably not so good for vegans. As a meat lover it was terrific. The staff do a great job. The farm show was well done though I did realise (when the show had started) why hardly anyone was sitting on the right hand side - you can't really see the dogs working in the lower field. Clearly their tour leaders had given them instructions before arriving at Walter Peak. We still enjoyed the show however. Maybe a screen should be set up so all can easily view the dogs movements? When we booked we did advise that one of our group had trouble walking & we were advised that it was not far to the show but actually it is a wee distance & an uphill climb so she had to return to the Earnslaw rather than view the show. It would be worth while considering a way to get those with mobility difficulties up to the show. However we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening & were so glad we had done it.
