Where past meets present. A unique and exciting experience combining Māori Culture and some of the amazing Central Otago Wines. Past and present come together as one.
Your day begins at 11 am, when you will be collected from your Wanaka accommodation.
You will unfortunately not be welcomed with a Māori greeting, the Hongi, which helps to establish a connection with you and the Māori people of New Zealand and the Whenua (land). But an explanation will occur about the importance of it.
A quick 5-minute drive gets you to Aitkens Folly or Rippon where you will get to try a delectable selection of Pinot Noir, Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and more!
The second winery is Māori Point near Tarras, following that is the Dessert Heart winery.
Your last stop will be either Mt Difficulty, Wooing Tree or Akarua before your drive back to Wanaka.
This is a truly insightful and interesting way to learn about the local Māori history, enjoy some tasty snacks and lovely wines while gaining insight into the history of the beautiful Otago, Queenstown and Gibbston regions.
We were delighted to spend the day with Joe as he took us to three lovely wineries around Wanaka. After a traditional Maori greeting, he spent the drive to different places teaching us the Maori and settler history of the Otago region. It is clear he is held in high esteem by the winery owners and staff, who greeted him and us warmly at each location. Delicious cheese platter at Wooing Tree included which was the perfect accompaniment to all the wines we sampled. Honestly it could not have been a more perfect day and we highly recommend it as a unique and authentic Wanaka experience. Thanks Joe!! ~ Andrea and Anne Marie
