Location: 1227 Waitomo Valley Road, Waitomo

Fitness Test: If the guide(s) on the day have any doubt about a client’s fitness they may ask them to prove it by completing a fitness-test. One quick and simple test we may use is “to step up and down a 20 cm (8 inches) step not less than 45 times in 60 seconds”. We strongly recommend clients complete this test before they book their activity and before they travel to Waitomo. Clients may also be requested to submit to breath-testing for alcohol or other drugs. Where appropriate, guides may at their sole discretion cancel a departure or remove an unsuitable client from a departing trip for any safety-related reason.

Pregnancy: We do not recommend abseiling ( rappelling ) during the 1st and 3rd trimester due to the need to wear a tight-fitting harness across your waist during the abseil.

All pregnant clients wishing to participate in one of our adventure options must provide a medical certificate from their General Medical Practitioner confirming that they are fit for abseiling ( rappelling ) and caving.

This policy is required for us to comply with the NZ Adventure Safety Regulations.

Amazing Cave Experience!

This was our first caving adventure and we absolutely loved it. Our two guides were amazing and made the experience very memorable! We highly recommend this adventure!

Awesome experience!!

I’ve always been wanting to do some caving and the Haggas Honking Holes are definitely a great experience for first timer like myself. The experience throughout the journey was definitely exhilarating but there’s only one thing that didn’t meet my expectation. I expect to see more glowworms but no. So if your purpose are to see the glowworms, you might want to take another activity. Otherwise, I’d say it’s worth the money for the experience.

From Waitomo Adventures - Haggas Honking Holes

This particular option has only limited glowworms...although you do get to see them up close & personal. If you want Glowworms then we have other options e.g. Blackwater Rafting_TTT and Lost World that have LOTS of glowworms. Haggas Honking Holes is all about action...being the most concentrated half day action adventure at Waitomo. It also has very nice & unusual delicate cave formations.

Great experience!

I had booked the Haggas Honking Holes tour at the last minute the night before driving through Waitomo. At 10pm that night I get an email from Michail letting me know that I was the only person to have booked for that tour so unfortunately they would not be able to run it. However, I could still show up at the same time and they could upgrade me for free to another tour departing at the same time. I was so appreciative of their flexibility and the opportunity to still get to experience to beauty of the caves! Our guide Joel was attentive and entertaining as we abseiled and climbed back out of the cave. Definitely something I would recommend to anyone!

Awesome from start to finish

An excellent adventure from start to finish. Nick made us very welcome at check-in and ramped up our excitement. Then we set off with the friendly Joel who was super safety conscious but still maintained the fun and excitement. We abseiled down waterfalls, crawled through gaps we thought we'd never get through, rocked climbed and saw wonderous natural formations, and of course glowworms. Joel was very knowledgeable - there wasn't a question he couldn't answer and gave us so much interesting information on everything! Would definitely recommend, and would love to return another day for more adventures.

Fantastic and exhilarating experience

I was apprehensive of spending 3-4 hours underground, being a bit of a claustrophobic person... I am so glad I came! The guide was an absolute pro, highly trained and capable with fantastic knowledge of the geology and ecology of the caves. The abseiling down cave waterfalls was incredibly fun and I found there was far too much going on to have any time to be anxious. Its such a wonderful combination of activities, and there was even time to sit in the pitch black darkness and feel peaceful 85m under the earth. My sister and I had such a wonderful time and would recommend this to anyone who is up for a bit of adventure.
