Bookme ReviewSail Barbary - Eco Sailing to the Maori Rock Carvings Posted by minshu from New Zealand on 12 Apr 2026

  • minshu said... Due to weather condition, our Lake Taupo boat cruise was on a motorboat named Karariki. We were a bit disappointed that we could not be on Barbary the sail boat. However as Karariki left the dock and headed to the lake we felt more and more comfortable and soon forgot about Barbary! It was a unique experience. We totally enjoyed every moment of the trip. Our captain Chris and his crew (sorry we forgot her name) were very professional. They kept Karariki steady on the rough water of Lake Taupo for the whole cruise. None of the passengers got sea sick! We had feelings that Karariki covered more milage than Barbary the would be boat. The Maori rock carving was the highlight of the cruise. Chris explained every details of the carvings and even anchored the boat so that passengers could enjoy a short swimming on the lake. What a fantastic experience! Thank you Chris!
