  • Get up close and personal with these inquisitive creatures
  • Fully guided tour
  • Includes hotel pick up/drop off

Low Head Penguin Tours offer a uniquely immersive experience to get up close and personal with these adorable penguins as they return from the pristine waters of Bass Straight to nest in their burrows within the Low Head Coastal Reserve. The scientific name of the Little Penguin (formerly known as Fairy Penguin or Blue Penguin) "Eudyptula minor" is most descriptive, not only are these penguins the smallest of the species, but Eudyptula means "good little diver". The Low Head Coastal Reserve has the largest penguin rookery in Tasmania, and the penguins return every night throughout the year. Witness them swim to the surface, stand up and preen themselves before waddling up the beach.

Rest assured that the tour is operated along environmentally conscious lines to ensure the penguins are not disturbed. Learn about the Little Penguins and how most retain the same mate for life. The penguin viewing is fully guided and takes approximately 1 hour, and including transfers to/from Launceston you need to allow 3.5 hours. You are welcome to bring a camera to capture your experience but no flash photography.
