Museums Wellington - Space Place Entry

Explore the wonders of the southern skies at Space Place.

Take a journey into space at Space Place at Carter Observatory. Their planetarium offers a state of the art, digital experience that’ll take you on an unforgettable journey from Wellington to the outer regions of our Solar System and beyond.

You’ll discover the sheer scale of the Universe and its origins in the Big Bang, the Maori story of creation, and examine the possibility of life on other planets. Travel through Space Place's very own black hole, handle a space rock and launch a rocket! Telescope viewings are held using the Thomas Cooke telescope during late nights (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) as weather permits.

This is a fun, interactive and educational experience for the whole family.

    Great value for money!

Fantastic! A little hard to find out how to purchase tickets from the museum webpage, but once we figured that out (thanks Google) and were directed here the reviews confirm we had found a legit seller (so thanks reviewers! We loved our time in the museum part and the show was very interesting (if a little complex (dark matter)) I did however really enjoy the night sky part of the show. Oh and if it’s still light when you arrive be sure to check out the garden - Saturn is awesome!

    Engaging and interesting

We had a great time at Space Place. The staff were fantastic. The exhibition was interesting and engaging. We went on a fantastically clear night and saw Jupiter with 4 of its moons in alignment on a 150 year old telescope. The planetarium show was enjoyable and the staff member narrating the sky tour afterwards was charismatic and likeable. Highly recommended.
