Wiremu/William was a great guide. Very informative, happy to answer questions as you walk around. No reading from a script.

Somes island visit with Wellington Museum.

As the description states: An hour tour of the Museum followed by the Fish' Chips pickup, followed by the ferry ride to Somes island. Where we thought to get a guided tour, but that didn't happen. Very lucky with the weather. Beautiful sunny day with not much wind. 1. The guided tour at the museum felt rushed, and this was mentioned several times by the guide too. No complaints about the guide or the museum! But it's better to take your time if you're interested in the maritime history of Wellington. 2. Fish'n chips were lovely =) (eating on board the ferry, where you can also buy food and drinks) 3. Somes island. Nice time walking around and enjoying the peace and quiet (in between other toursist walking past). Enjoying the wild bird life and seeing some whetas in there 'hotels' too =) Beautiful views. No guides around though. 4. Ferry back. Nice ride on the top deck. All in all a good day, but you could just do it by yourself.

Dissappointed

The tour was very rushed at the Museum. The lady that took us through Was very serious and did not put any humour into at all. Then we went to get our fish and chips and the museum had bugged up with order so got on board ferry without food as it was lunch time was not a good start. Went on ferry to island only to be shut in a room with department of conservation for 15 mins checking bags, pockets etc to see if we had brought mice or rats with us. Stayed on island for 10 mins and promptly caught the next ferry back to get our fish and chips. Sadly thinking this would be a high point was not to be. Fish was shark which was dry and tough to eat. Would not recommend this tour at all if travelling to Wellington.

The past

Enjoyed the whole experience. Emma provided a well presented guided tour of info around Somes Island in museum. The museum is a hidden treasure.
