We really enjoyed kayaking on this peaceful, serene section of waterways and lake. Would highly recommend! Gavin and Cindy we’re both lovely and got us set up and off on our way in no time. You get to see lots of white Herons, we went in the morning and there wasn’t another soul on the lake, just lovely.
So happy you enjoyed your kayak Rebecca! There are an unusually large amount of Kotuku/white heron in the creek at the moment! What a treat!! So appreciate you supporting us ....legends!!??
The wildlife and scenery were incredible but we definitely needed somewhere to be able to pull over and rest , picnic, stretch at least once on the river. A simple platform would have been ideal. It was hard for our 11 and 13 year old boys to keep going for 3-4 hours without a break.
Hi Martin, So pleased you thought the scenery was amazing...it is a special place! ? Our apologies, but it has been a protected Scenic Reserve since the 1800's and we would never be allowed to put up a man made structure for a pull over or picnic area. A pity you did not pull over onto the grass verge you were shown as one of your safety exit points...that makes a great stop over and swim spot :) Another great pull over spot is beneath the bridge overhead where you can climb out, walk over the bridge, and picnic at the old historic flaxmill and sawmill. You could even have walked up the Wilderness Trail a bit for a view of the wetlands. My apologies if Gavin forgot to mention this...I generally will let everyone know. Many thanks for giving it a go and getting to see how beautiful the Mahinapua lowland wetlands are...spectacular! Take care...Cindy Hopper.
great scenery helpful friendly person who got us started.
Thanks you for supporting us Lynda! 💙 Pleased you enjoyed the beautiful scenery through the Mahinapua lowland wetlands :) Look after yourselves....Gavin and Cindy.

Great experience on the coast
Great experience in a little slice of paradise. Got to explore the waterways going towards Lake Mahinapua and look at the wildlife. Heaps of spots to slow down and observe. The kayaks were great and Gavin provided with dry bags, a locator beacon and a map to make the trip enjoyable. Took us 3.5 hours in total. Don't forget to bring wtaer!
