Lincoln Primary School performs in Wellington
Lincoln Primary School's Concert Band travelled to Wellington with the Airpoints for Schools programme to perform on a national level at two band festivals. Students represented their Canterbury school at both the New Zealand Concert Band Association (NZCBA) Festival and the Wellington Band and Orchestra (WEBO) Festival.
The young band participated in workshops with students from other schools all around New Zealand where they learnt how to keep the balance of dynamics when playing. They also had the opportunity to receive feedback from specialist adjudicators who taught them how to improve and fine tune each of their performance pieces. The hard work paid off - the budding musicians did us all proud and walked away with a Gold Award for their performance as well as the Spirit of the Festival award.
Outside their practice and performance time, the young Kiwis had a chance watch other amazing bands perform and explored Wellington's best, visiting Te Papa, riding on the cable car and sampling delicious cuisine.
Spending quality time with other members of the band and travelling across New Zealand to perform gave students the opportunity to grow together as a band. They've returned from their journey with more than just awards, but have brought back new skills, lifelong memories, and inspiration to reach their potential.
"This experience was incredibly exciting and something that we will always remember. We learnt so much from the feedback we received and walked away with a Gold Award and the Spirit of the Festival award. Thanks to Airpoints for Schools for making this dream of ours a reality." - Kate, Year 8 Student at Lincoln Primary School
