Los Angeles tips from Kiwis
Experience the Skyslide and a 360 degree view of LA at sunset & night time from 1,000 feet above the city at OUE Skyspace!
Where better to learn to surf than Venice Beach? Just make your way to the beachside carpark and you'll find this slightly overloaded VW. You'll be 'hanging ten' in no time... dude!
Stay out at Santa Monica, shop til you drop on 3rd Street Promenade, bask in the sun on the beach, go for a beach bike ride & taste the amazing food LA has to offer!
Visit the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Visit The Broad museum.
Hire a convertible, put the top down, and drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to Huntington Beach. Gorgeous views along the way and then you reach this gorgeous, laid back, seaside city.
Go to the Farmer's Market and Grove in LA. Great food, great atmosphere, and something happening all the time. Full of life, fun and energy!
Queues for rides at Disney parks can be very long. Spend USD $15 at www.ridemax.com to create custom daily itineraries that significantly reduce wait times. We avoided hours of queuing at Disneyland!
Visit The Stahl House. An original from the 60s it has the best view of Los Angeles imaginable. Book online, don't turn up on spec' and if you are very lucky you might even meet the owner!
Go for a walk Downtown, it's definitely not like the rest of LA! Stop in at Clifton's - cool 50s kitsch mish mash decor & cocktails and visit the Central Markets, great food & NZ standard coffees.
Disney Bound NZers are lucky - only us & Aussies can get 10 day passes for the Anaheim Disneyland parks! These are sold at NZ travel agents for only a small amount more than a 5 day pass.
In-N-Out burger must be tried - you can walk there from the airport if you have a long enough layover, and there is a parking shuttle that will get you half way there.
Visit Dodger Stadium to watch the dodgers play baseball while eating a Brooklyn hotdog with some soda.
Harry Potter World at Universal Studios. So amazing! And yum butter beer!
Visit Hearst Castle and do the tours. We have done all the tours and all are amazing. I love this place.
A few hours' drive will take you to this amazing folk art spot south of Joshua Tree. It's already starting to disappear so see it while you have the chance.
See live music at the famous Whisky-a-go-go - The original Sunset Strip venue were so many great bands started out and many still come back and play for a bit of nostalgia!
A must-see is the Paul Getty Museum. Apart from its stunning architecture and vista looking out over Los Angeles, the art exhibits are magnificent. My favourite is the illuminated manuscripts.
Griffiths Observatory - the views of the Hollywood sign and the city were amazing!
Get a pic in front of the big pink wall on Melrose Ave. The wall belongs to designer Paul Smith's flagship store and has become the place to get snapped in LA.
