Discover the neighbourhoods of Vancouver

Vancouver delivers effortless urban sophistication against a backdrop of stunning harbour vistas and imposing mountainscapes.

Each of the city's colourful, eclectic neighbourhoods dishes up its own version of mind-blowing food, eclectic shopping and humming nightlife. Watch our video below.

Eating, drinking and fashion are obsessions in Gastown, so it's the perfect place to show off your locally-bought designer threads while enjoying a festive night out. Gastown's restaurant scene is best known for progressive dining, where you are encouraged to enjoy your entrée at one restaurant, main at another, before moving on yet again for dessert. Another Gastown drawcard is the architecture, a fascinating blend of Victorian and contemporary styles.

Every great metropolis has a Chinatown, and Vancouver can claim the third biggest in North America (after New York and San Francisco). Focused on Pender Street, it's a splendid concoction of traditional restaurants, open markets, tea shops, apothecaries and specialty stores. Visit Chinatown for unique - sometimes bizarre - shopping opportunities and delectable dim sum cuisine. Top off the experience with a visit to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.

Granville Street

To take things up a notch, hit the flashing neon strip that is Granville Street. Home to the iconic art deco Commodore Ballroom, which has hosted everyone from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Lady Gaga, Granville Street is the live entertainment hub of Vancouver. Everything from popular bands to symphony concerts and theatre performances can be found in this glitzy neighbourhood.

Local artist Marino Santa María has transformed the street of Pasaje Lanín with colourful tile mosaics.

Once a hippy hub, and now a focal point for family entertainment and lifestyle shopping, Kitsilano will tempt you to buy designer yoga pants one minute and then munch on organic Yukon Gold fries with delicious miso gravy the next. It's also the ideal place to occupy youngsters with entertainment options like the Museum of Vancouver, Maritime Museum, H.R MacMillan Space Centre and Kitsilano beach saltwater swimming pool.

Granville Island

Vancouver has many excellent farmers' markets, but none quite as good as Granville Island Public Market. Just a short ferry ride from downtown Vancouver, Granville Island is must stop for foodies and photographers alike. The array of homemade and fresh culinary delights found here is rivalled only by the spectacular views across the harbour.

West End

West End is your ideal entry point to world famous Stanley Park and its hugely popular seawall walk, which stretches for an amazing 28 kilometres. Denman Street is a highlight of this neighbourhood; you'll be impressed by the sheer volume of restaurant and coffee shop options.

When you're ready for a truly upmarket change of scene, Yaletown is where it's at. Once it was the western terminus for the Canadian Pacific Railway; today it's uber-cool and ultra chic.

Wander the historic streets to find a plethora of swish cocktail bars, restaurants, designer clothing stores, lofts and stylish green spaces.
