An unforgettable tour to two of NZ's top attractions in one day - the world-famous Lord of The Rings Hobbiton Movie Set, and the geothermal and Maori cultural wonders of Te Puia...

Highlights

  • Guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set
  • Complementary beverage at the famous Green Dragon Pub
  • Te Puia Geothermal Park guided tour
  • See the Pōhutu Geyser, Maori Architecture and enjoy Kiwi Bird viewing
  • Explore Rotorua City with a guided tour
  • Small, personalised group tour with driver guide

Beginning with a convenient pick-up in a comfortable minibus, your informative guide will drive your small group through stunning Waikato countryside to Hobbiton.

Upon arrival at the Alexander family sheep farm and Shire's Res, you'll see thousands of sheep and can enjoy a bite or drink before boarding the Hobbiton bus to start your exciting 2 hour fully guided Hobbiton Movie set tour.

You'll visit 44 hobbit holes, discover lush pastures of the Shire, learn all about the making of the films, before finishing with a cold beverage at the famous Hobbiton pub, The Green Dragon Inn.

Next, we head to the amazing geothermal area of Rotorua, first passing through the quirky town of Tirau (the corrugated iron sculpture capital of the world) and the stunning Fitzgerald Glade.

On the fully guided Rotorua city tour, you'll discover the iconic landmarks and historical sites including Lake Rotorua, The Government Gardens, Blue Baths, Thermal Springs and Polynesian Spa before heading to one of the most famous attractions in New Zealand, Te Puia Geothermal Park.

After stopping for lunch (we highly recommend trying the traditional Maori Hangi meal), enjoy another fully guided tour around the park and see Pōhutu Geyser, Māori Architecture, the National Māori Arts Schools, geothermal craters. You might even see a kiwi bird in the kiwi viewing house.

Great experience

I had a great day on this tour. The guide, Lance, was very kind, funny, and accommodating in dropping us off at different places in the city at the end of the tour. Hobbiton was fun and the scenery driving to and from it was breathtaking - so many beautiful green hills and farms. Te Puia was interesting and felt authentic to the Maori culture because it is run by representatives from the community. The money from ticket sales goes towards the Maori crafts institutes (located at Te Puia) dedicated to training future generations of craft makers. The geyser and mud pools at Te Puia were very cool to see too. I would take a Cheeky Kiwi tour again, though you could probably save money by renting a car or taking a bus to these locations yourself. However, it was great to have the tour guide's commentary as we drove from place to place.
