Step back in time and soak up the ambiance of days gone by at the Howick Historical Village!
A unique ‘Living History’ Museum, presenting the stories of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's early settlers in a hands-on and immersive way, visitors can explore authentic 1840s cottages, homesteads, schools, church, a smithy, a general store and more, all set in charming heritage gardens.
Wrapup for a stroll to explore the site. Make a day of it! Enjoy brunch or lunch at the sunny Homestead Café.
The following attractions take place in April:
- Gifts from the Garden: Wednesday 17 & 24 April, 11:30 – 1 hour kids & family workshop on herbs & plants ($10 per person)
- Candle Making: Thursday 18 & 25 April, 11am ($6 per person)
- Butter making: Sundays 10.30-3:30
- Outdoor Games & Crafts: Everyday
The following attractions take place in May:
- Winter Food Preservation mini tour: Saturday 11am
- Do the Chores: Sundays 11am
- Butter making: Sundays 11am-3pm
- Feed the Chooks: Everyday at 10.45am
- Self-guided crafts: Everyday
- Live Day: Sunday 12 May - Mothers Day!
Please note that activities change on a monthly basis.
For the full experience visit on a LIVE DAY! Every 2nd Sunday of the month. Meet costumed villagers, make candles and churn butter, attend a school lesson and watch the blacksmiths and bakers at work. Interactive activities and demonstrations take place throughout the day.

Great family outing
Lovely family day out, kids loved it and my 4 year old got a washing experience she will never have to experience again! Very cool and educational :) we also enjoyed some refreshments at their lovely cafe afterwards, highly recommend!

Would’ve liked to see more of the Māori perspective represented but a very interesting set of exhibits nonetheless.

Had a great experience exploring the historical buildings. So much detail captured and a fun learning experience. Great day out with family and took some fun photos.

Very cool live day!
Highly recommend Howick Historical Village as a way to spend your day. Definitely look for when their next Live Day is and plan a trip :)
