Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is home to millions of objects, is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand’s top three heritage libraries.

With a renowned Māori and Pacific collection, significant natural history resources and major pictorial and military history collections, it holds a special place in the hearts and minds of Aucklanders. The Museum building is one of Auckland’s iconic landmarks and offers unrivalled views of Tāmaki Makaurau.



The Incredible Rooftop Tour:

Experience a breath-taking view of Auckland from the rooftop of one of Auckland’s most beloved heritage buildings.

Come up onto the roof for a rare chance to take in the panoramic views of the city and hear the history of the Museum over the space of an hour.

You’ll learn about the building, the people who work at the Museum and its place in the Domain from this unique vantage point.

Duration

  • Allow approximately 90 minutes for the whole experience

  • Meet at the Tour Banner in the Grand Foyer, Auckland Museum.

Restrictions

  • Minimum age: 11

  • The tour includes stairs and is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. A moderate fitness level is required.

Notes

  • The Incredible Rooftop Tour is limited to 10 people and is suitable for adults and children aged 11 and over.

  • Important:

    - The tour includes stairs and is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

    - A moderate fitness level is required.

    - The rooftop can be breezy, so dress for the weather on the day.

    - Flat, closed-toe shoes with good grip must be worn and long trousers covering the ankles are recommended. Without the correct footwear, you wont be able to join the tour.

    - All bags must be checked into our eLockers (charges apply) and umbrellas are not permitted on the roof.

    - In the case of severe weather, heavy rain or strong winds, the tour will be cancelled, and the Museum team will contact you to rebook onto another date or organise a refund. The Museum will notify all ticket holders by 9am of any cancellations.

    Time: The tour will commence at 10:15am sharp.

    Day: Daily until Thursday 31 March 2022.
