Experience all that Fitzroy Island has to offer on this spectacular self-guided day trip at this incredible location!
Departing Cairns we’ll take a 45-minute ferry to the Island, and the rest of the day is up to you! Boat departs 11am so you have time for a sleep in! Returning to Cairns at 5pm.
Once on the island you’ll be free to relax, play and explore this remarkable slice of paradise as you please.
There's plenty to do on the Island! You can hire kayaks, snorkel gear and paddle boards. There is also a café and general store so you’ll be set for lunch and snacks to keep you fuelled throughout the day. Take a tour of the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, this can also be booked at additional cost on the day.
The Fitzroy Island is surrounded by the famous Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is perfect for snorkelling or diving. The reef system is world heritage listed and is an absolute must-see for anyone visiting the region!
The beaches are safe and sheltered, ideal for swimming with the kids or simply relaxing on the beachside and soaking in the picturesque scenery.
There is plenty to explore on land too with multiple walks through the lush island tropical rainforest.
A brilliant way to explore one of Australia’s iconic scenic destinations, and a fantastic day out that the whole family will love!
Things to do:
Nature Walks: There are many beautiful self-guided nature walks on the island.
Dive & Adventure Centre: You can hire equipment from the Fitzroy Island Dive Centre including kayaks, snorkel & fins and stand up paddle boards, plus book your glass bottom boat adventures here too.
Turtle Rehab Tours: Take a tour of the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island and meet the patients.
Island Facilities:
Foxy’s Bar: Enjoy a coffee, cold drink or lunch at Foxy’s Bar
General Store: Located adjacent to Foxy’s, you can purchase refreshments, snacks and general needs. You can also book your Turtle Tour at the General Store.

We offer three departure options from Cairns and three return from Fitzroy Island:
Departing Cairns - 11am departing Cairns
Departing Fitzroy Island - 5pm

great trip over Fitzroy .crew on board 1st class .we even were lucky to see Whales 🐋 .captain stopped and we watched them having fun ..

Fitzroy was amazing!
Website easy to use and emailed communication great (although would suggest more detailed directions on how to get to the boat bay for those not from the area). Fitzroy Island is absolutely beautiful, Nudey Beach is a natural wonder. Great that you can bring your own food and drinks. Boat ride was efficient and friendly service, the young fella working on the boat even loaned me his polarised sunnies so I could better see the whale (!!!) that the boat staff spotted, and stopped the boat so we could all see! The only reason this is not a five star review is because of the rude, awful, customer service from the unfriendly, unhelpful, negative and sour woman working in the Fitzroy Flyer office. Talk about letting the whole team down! If I was rating just on her it would have been a one star review. Without her it would have been five. Suggest customer service training asap! Or perhaps a non-customer facing role.

Half day on Fitzroy Island
We had the best time exploring Fitzroy Island. The ferry over was pretty rough so don’t forget to take motion sickness tablets ahead of time. Once there we hired snorkeling gear and spent the entire day exploring all the different reefs right off the beaches. It was a highlight of our time in Cairns.
