Get the full early settler experience at Howick Historical Village, for up to half the general admission price!

Step back in time and soak up the ambiance of days gone by at the Howick Historical Village!

A unique ‘Living History’ Museum, presenting the stories of Tāmaki MakaurauAuckland's early settlers in a hands-on and immersive way, visitors can explore authentic 1840s cottages, homesteads, schools, church, a smithy, a general store and more, all set in heritage gardens.

With plenty of room for distancing in the idyllic outdoor setting and outdoor games and crafts to entertain the young ones, make a day of it! Bring a picnic or pick-up something from the Homestead Café.

There was always work to be done! Help with the chores at the following times in MAY:

  • Feed the Chooks: everyday at 10:45am
  • Make a Rag Rug: Saturdays & Sundays 11-12:30
  • Butter Making: Sundays11-3pm


Please note that activities change on a monthly basis.

Experience a LIVE DAY on Sunday 8 May. The Village comes to life with costumed villagers going about their specialised tasks such as baking on the old coal range or working at the forge, and lots of interactive demonstrations for Mother’s Day, including floral art crafts and a tea service.

Notes

  • Activities:No bookings required for Rag Rug and Butter Making activites. Free with entry but donations are welcome or support us by purchasing something in the gift shop.

    Masks must be worn in any indoor spaces and where social distancing is not possible; masks are recommended when outdoors.

    Open: 1am-4pm (last entry 3pm). Caf hours 9am-3pm (kitchen closes at 2pm)

    No dogs permitted (except for guide dogs)

Great family outing

Lovely family day out, kids loved it and my 4 year old got a washing experience she will never have to experience again! Very cool and educational :) we also enjoyed some refreshments at their lovely cafe afterwards, highly recommend!

Would’ve liked to see more of the Māori perspective represented but a very interesting set of exhibits nonetheless.
