This episode looks at the homestead of Dame Whina Cooper in Panguru through the eyes of her daughter, Hinerangi Cooper Puru. Born in Hokianga, Whina was a prominent Māori figure best known for leading the 1975 Māori Land March.

Piritaha is a humble farmhouse built in the 1900s in Otiria using kauri milled from their own whenua (land). Today it's cared for by 80-year-old Lucy Dora - a possum-skinning, wood-chopping, cow-wrangling great-grandmother.

The Jones family homestead, next to Mahimaru Marae, holds deep significance for both their family and the community. With strong Ngāpuhi and Te Aupōuri roots, they were raised in Māori traditions, seeing their home as a spiritual link to their tīpuna.

The Eriwata homestead, nestled along the Waiwhakaiho River in Ngā Motu, was one of the very first houses in the area and an important pit stop for whānau travelling to Parihaka. This homestead served as a bastion of hope after the immense loss suffered by the Eriwata whānau.

Hone Tuwhare was one of New Zealand's most celebrated poets and one of the first Māori writers to gain prominence in English language literature. In 1992 the poet bought "The Crib" at Kākā Point, where he sought solitude and inspiration to write.

Three generations of the Black family live a rural lifestyle together on their papa kainga “Te Hurepo” in Eastern Bay of Plenty. Over 30 years ago Arthur Black and his wife Waitangi felt compelled to buy land near their tūrangawaewae to raise their children.
