Air New Zealand and Northland team up on tourism campaign

Air New Zealand has partnered with the Bay of Islands Marketing Group and Northland Inc. on a campaign of activity to attract visitors to the region.

The campaign includes Northland featuring in the airline's 'Where to Next' TV advertisements, in its inflight magazine Kia Ora, on its social channels and in other digital placements.

It's also seen the reintroduction of the airline's safety video Summer of Safety from December 2019 through to the end of February 2020. The video was filmed in the region and first launched inflight in late 2016 and takes viewers on a trip through the region's most spectacular sights.

Air New Zealand Head of Tourism & Regional Affairs Reuben Levermore says the airline is delighted to continue its marketing partnership with the Northland region to help inspire visitors to the area after it first kicked off in December 2016.

"The region has become increasingly popular with leisure travellers in recent years. Since 2015 seats on our services to and from Kerikeri and Whangārei have increased by almost 30%. The new Kerikeri Airport terminal opened last year also provides a fantastic welcome to visitors travelling to the Bay of Islands and Far North."

Northland Inc. General Manager Destination Tania Burt says, "Alongside the Bay of Islands Marketing Group, we are working to get Northland on the map with both domestic and international visitors. Northland has wide appeal as both a nostalgic journey for those who have been before and a relatively undiscovered region, so we thank Air New Zealand once again for the opportunity to share our stories and connect with audiences."

Bay of Islands Marketing Group Chair Charles Parker says he's thrilled to see the partnership with Air New Zealand continue for a fourth summer season.

"We say the Bay of Islands is 'Where Stories Begin' and this campaign strongly supports this. It also encourages visitors to plan a trip in the Autumn, which as locals know is a beautiful time to visit and enjoy what the region has to offer."

Air New Zealand's support for Northland tourism also includes a partnership with the country's premier tourism and hospitality management college, Queenstown Resort College (QRC) at its Te Tai Tokerau campus based in Paihia, which offers the opportunity for young people to train for a career in tourism and hospitality.
