Supplier diversity

Supporting supplier diversity is intentionally sourcing from businesses that include and involve people from a range of different backgrounds. At Air New Zealand, we've started with an initial focus on increasing the engagement and participation of Māori-owned and Pasifika-owned businesses and social enterprises in our procurement processes – groups that are currently underrepresented in our supply chain.

A diverse supplier base better reflects the communities we serve and generates community impact and economic opportunities. Meaningful engagement with diverse businesses fosters acceptance, inclusion, unity, and stronger connections amongst people, which in turn helps us grow and develop as an airline.

We've started with an initial focus on increasing the engagement and participation of Māori-owned and Pasifika-owned businesses and social enterprises in our procurement processes – groups that have been underrepresented in our supply chain.

Māori and Pasifika Businesses are businesses with at least 50% ownership by Māori and/or Pasifika people.

Social enterprises are purpose-driven businesses that trade to deliver positive social and environmental outcomes. That means they generate most of their revenue from trade that deliver on a social or environmental mission and reinvest profits back into their mission.

To be categorised in our supplier portal as a diverse supplier, you must be a verified member of one of our diversity partners:

• Ākina
• Amotai
• Whāriki

We're aiming to double our spend with diverse suppliers to $24 million and double our total number of diverse suppliers to at least 50, by 30 June 2025.

No, we have comprehensive criteria which need to be met for any supplier agreement, however, it will be one of the considerations we assess when reviewing the sourcing opportunity.

While membership is not required to do business with us, it's required to be categorised as a diverse supplier in our procurement portal. We accept membership from the following third parties to verify that you're a diverse business:

• Ākina
• Amotai
• Whāriki

Being a member of one of these organisations will enable you to connect and learn from experts and suppliers within these networks and support you to get recognition for the social impact of your business. Membership of these organisations is also free, so if you think you meet the criteria, we strongly encourage you to join.

Following Ka Rere round one, our team took away many learnings and applied them to how we might approach running a second round. We recognised both the high quality of candidates who applied in round one and the significant effort and care taken to complete the applications.

With that in mind, we decided to revisit the list of round one applicants and select a shortlist to present in a final round of interviews. Ultimately, three candidates will be selected to participate in Ka Rere round two.

Air New Zealand is constantly exploring new opportunities to create impact. Ka Rere is one initiative that enables us to do this, and each round is a chance to apply learnings from the previous.
