To help maintain our international schedule, Air New Zealand alliance partner Cathay Pacific will take over operations of the Hong Kong-Auckland return service for most of the next three months.
Why are Air New Zealand pilots and cabin crew not operating these aircraft?
The agreement we have entered into is that Cathay Pacific will operate the services between Auckland and Hong Kong using their aircraft, pilots and cabin crew. These flights will not be operated by Air New Zealand, so our crew won’t be on board.
Cathay Pacific is an Air New Zealand alliance partner and we already codeshare with them on flights to and from Hong Kong to offer our customers increased capacity and frequency of services. Their aircraft and crew offer a high level of comfort and service.
Will any Air New Zealand crew be on board?
As these flights are operated by Cathay Pacific there will not be any Air New Zealand crew or product onboard. Cathay Pacific aircraft and crew offer a high level of comfort and service similar to our own.
I pre-booked a seat, is that still guaranteed?
These aircraft have different cabin and seating configurations to Air New Zealand’s fleet. As Cathay Pacific will be managing seating on the day of travel, we will, unfortunately, have no control over seat allocation. Customers who have pre-paid for seat selection will be eligible for a full refund of their pre-paid seating.
I booked a Skycouch, will that still be available?
As Skycouch is a product unique to Air New Zealand, unfortunately, this product will not be available on this aircraft. Customers who have booked a Skycouch will be refunded in full for the cost of their Skycouch product.
Will you still be providing loyalty upgrades?
Unfortunately, no. Loyalty upgrades are only available on Air New Zealand operated flights. As these flights are operated by Cathay Pacific it is not possible to request loyalty upgrades or One Up upgrades.
What are the food and beverage offerings?
The inflight offering including meals and beverages will be as per other Cathay Pacific services. A selection of special meals are available and information can be found here.

Is there inflight entertainment on board?
As Cathay Pacific is operating these flights the inflight entertainment provided will be the standard Cathay Pacific offering which includes seatback, on demand entertainment including movies, music and games. More information can be found here.
Will I still earn Airpoints Dollars?
Yes, you’ll earn the same amount of Airpoints dollars offered on Air New Zealand operated flights.
Can I check in online?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to check in online. You will need to check in at the airport. As the flight is operated by Cathay Pacific, please go directly to Cathay Pacific check-in counter/kiosks to check in.
Can I still see flight details on my Air New Zealand mobile app?
Yes, there is no change to what you will see in the Air NZ mobile app other than it should show that the flight is operated by Cathay Pacific.
If you’re unable to see your booking in the Air NZ mobile app, please check that your Airpoints number is registered against your new flight number.
