The Air New Zealand contact centre will not process hotel bookings with Expedia and aren’t able to help manage existing bookings, but they are available for additional support where the Expedia team aren’t able to resolve your query.

The up to 47% off hotel discount is an average savings based on previous customers  who have purchased a flight and then booked a qualifying hotel within a specified time period on from July - December 2018 as compared to the price of the same hotel booked separately as a non-qualifying transaction. Savings will vary based on origin/destination, length of trip, stay dates and selected travel supplier(s). Savings not available on all hotels.

Hotels savings will be available when you have completed your flight booking with Air New Zealand and follow the prompts to book a hotel. After a flight booking has been made, hotel package room rates will be presented with the countdown to display how long the rates are available for, based on your booking dates. 

Alternatively, retrieve an existing booking and select 'Book a hotel'.

Please note you are only able to access the package rate discount online following the purchase of your flight. Certain restrictions apply: 

  • The hotel booking needs to be made within the specific validity period as displayed on the countdown clock.
  • This is up to 20 days but varies by flight booking
  • The primary traveller must be over 18 years old
  • A return flight booking is required with at least 1 night between the flights
  • The first night of your hotel stay must be within three days of the day your flight lands if you have booked a round-trip flight or a multi destination flight
  • Your travel must be less than 51 weeks away from the date of booking
  • Other reasons as determined by Expedia

If you miss your reservation or arrive late, the hotel may charge you certain fees. Make sure that you check the hotel's cancellation and late arrival policy.

Please note: If you fail to notify the hotel about a late arrival, your reservation may be cancelled.

While Expedia does not charge fees for changes or cancellations, they are required to pass along the hotel's non-refundable rate plans or fees. Such fees are highest when cancellations occur within 48 hours of your scheduled travel dates.

Expedia, who are the merchant of record on the hotel booking don't provide tax invoices with a GST number.

You are able to  print a receipt of your booking here , but it won’t break out the tax component, only the information provided by the property which includes taxes and fees as part of the room rate.

You acknowledge that except as provided below with respect to tax obligations on the amounts we retain for our services, we do not collect taxes for remittance to applicable taxing authorities.

The tax recovery charges on prepaid hotel transactions are a recovery of the estimated taxes (e.g. sales and use, occupancy, room tax, excise tax, value added tax, etc.) that we pay to the hotel supplier for taxes due on the hotel's rental rate for the room. The hotel suppliers invoice us for certain charges, including tax amounts.

The hotel suppliers are responsible for remitting applicable taxes to the applicable taxing jurisdictions. We do not act as co-vendors with the Supplier with whom we book or reserve your travel arrangements.

Taxability and the appropriate tax rate vary greatly by location. The actual tax amounts paid by us to the hotel suppliers may vary from the tax recovery charge amounts, depending upon the rates, taxability, etc. in effect at the time of the actual use of the hotel by you. We retain service fees as additional compensation in servicing your travel reservation. Service fees retained by us vary based on the amount and type of hotel reservation.

You can earn Airpoints Dollars on every hotel booking you make on the Air New Zealand website. You can't currently redeem your Airpoints Dollars™ for a hotel booking.

We add these Airpoints Dollars to your account at the end of each month, once you've completed your hotel stay. If you booked a hotel with a ‘pay later’ option where you paid at the hotel, please allow 35 days following check-out for this to be credited to your account.

If your expected Airpoints Dollars don't appear in your account, you can make a claim up to six months later. Just complete a Missing Airpoints Claim form. Include any supporting documents to help us verify your claim with the relevant hotel or rental car company.

A single or double room is typically used for 1-2 persons travelling as the bedding configuration is normally one bed. A twin room is for 2 persons travelling however the room normally has 2 beds.

A triple room accommodates up to 3 people with either one double and a single bed or a combination of beds and roll-aways.

A quad room accommodates up to 4 people again with a combination of beds and roll-aways.
