Changes to the Kiwibank Airpoints™ credit card programme

Airpoints Dollars are normally valid for four years from the date they're earned and will expire on the anniversary of the day you joined the Airpoints Programme, unless you meet certain criteria:

• you are a Gold or Elite Airpoints member
  Your Airpoints Dollars won't expire while you hold Gold or Elite status. If your status changes, you'll have until your next anniversary to use any Airpoints Dollars that were due to expire. Find out more about the non-expiry benefit for Gold or Elite Airpoints members. 
• You hold an eligible Airpoints earning credit card with the Non-Expiry benefit
  Your Airpoints Dollars won't expire as long as you're the primary cardholder of an eligible Airpoints credit card that offers non-expiry of Airpoints Dollars benefit.

Will my Airpoints Dollars expire?

We've extended Airpoints Dollars expiry protection for all Kiwibank cardholders to 28 February 2026* to give members extra time to switch or consider their options.

If you are not a Gold or Elite member, your Airpoints Dollars earned are not protected by your Kiwibank credit card and will expire under the standard expiry rules.

You can check your Airpoints Dollars balance on the Air NZ app, and any expiring Airpoints Dollars on the Air New Zealand website (Select Your Airpoints, then Balances).

Do I have to use my Airpoints immediately?
Your Airpoints Dollars won't expire immediately and it depends on the standard rules. Your current Kiwibank credit card's non-expiry benefit has been extended to 28th Feb 2026. If you would like to use your Airpoints Dollars before they expire, you can:

• book a flight, rental car or travel insurance
• shop at the Airpoints Store
• gift Airpoints Dollars to someone in your household

We will notify you in advance by email before any Airpoints Dollars are due to expire.

To ensure your Airpoints Dollars stay active and your Airpoints Dollars balance growing, explore Airpoints earning credit cards and find the right one for you.

Any Airpoints Dollars you've previously earned will still be visible when you log in to the Air NZ app (see 'Airpoints' tab) or when you sign into your Airpoints account on the Air New Zealand website (see 'Your Benefits'). 

To ensure your Airpoints Dollars will not expire now that your Kiwibank Airpoints credit card has ended, take out a new Airpoints earning credit card. As long as you hold an active Airpoints earning credit card that offers Non-Expiry of Airpoints Dollars, your Airpoints Dollars will never expire. Otherwise, use your Airpoints Dollars to redeem rewards before they expire.

Any Status Points you've previously earned will still be visible when you log in to the Air NZ app (see 'Airpoints' tab) or when you sign into your Airpoints account on the Air New Zealand website (see 'Your Benefits'). Your Status Points will remain valid in line with our Airpoints terms and conditions.

If you fly frequently with us, you'll appreciate the added benefit of earning Air New Zealand Status Points on selected Airpoints earning credit cards. We offer a variety of Airpoints earning credit cards with Status Points offerings that allow you to upgrade and/or retain your tier at Silver, Gold or Elite within the Airpoints programme.
